Dora Oronti was born in 1940, in Limassol, Cyprus and is a highly accomplished painter, illustrator, and author. After graduating from Lanitio High School in 1958, Oronti pursued studies in interior decoration in Athens (1968-1971). Following this, she received a scholarship from Devon County Council to attend Exeter College of Fine Arts, where she studied graphic arts (1974-1976).
Making her debut in the art world with a group exhibition in Exeter (1976), Oronti went on to participate in an exhibition at the Albert-Victoria Museum in the same city the following year. Subsequently, she dedicated herself to teaching art in secondary schools throughout Cyprus. During this time, she actively engaged in international conferences, including those held in Rotterdam (1981) and New York (1982), and served on boards such as the EKATE (Chamber of Fine Arts) and the Cyprus Organisation for Education through Art.
Oronti’s artistic reach extended beyond Cyprus, with her work being displayed in various countries such as the USA, France, Mexico, Bulgaria, and more. In Mexico, she undertook a tour of urban centers (1983) as a guest of the Mexican Institute of Fine Arts and collaborated in designated studios. Similarly, she visited and worked in Bulgaria in 1987.
Group exhibitions featuring Oronti’s work took place in Cyprus, England, France, and Greece, while solo shows were arranged in Cyprus, New York, Athens, Mexico, Athens, and other locations. Initially working within the confines of abstract art, Oronti later explored constructivist pieces using various materials (wood, glass, aluminum, plaster, etc.) and integrated geometric shapes with expressive brushwork. As her interests evolved, she delved into installations and immersive environments, often creating atmospheres intended to provoke thoughtful reflection from viewers. Drawing inspiration from her personal memories, Cyprus’ historical past, and the human experience of time, Dora Oronti’s artworks remain deeply evocative and thought-provoking.
Additionally, Dora Oronti is recognized as an illustrator-author of children’s books and has contributed to poetic projects. Her diverse talents continue to captivate and inspire audiences across genres and disciplines.

Lots will close at their scheduled time unless a bid is placed within five minutes of a Lot’s scheduled closing time, in which case we will extend the sale of that Lot by five minutes.
The extension of any Lot’s closing time does not affect any other Lot’s closing time; therefore, it is possible that Lots will close out of the announced auction ending time. Lots may extend for up to two hours to accommodate competitive bidding.
Unsold artworks from the latest auction are now available for purchase at their starting price for a limited time. The Aftersale offers a second chance for unclaimed items to find their new collector. They can be viewed on this page under the ‘Aftersale‘ label or by visiting the gallery.

The term “secondary market” refers to art that has been sold at least once before. In simpler terms, the secondary market deals with resale, typically with artworks by artists who have a substantial reputation. For example, most artworks sold through auction houses form part of the secondary market.

The total purchase price is calculated, in short, as such:
Hammer Price + Buyer’s Premium (12%) + *VAT (5% or 19%)
The Buyer’s Premium is added to the Hammer Price (winning bid) and is included as part of the total Purchase Price payable by the successful Bidder. In an Online Auction conducted by Peter’s Gallery, the Buyer’s Premium rate is as follows: 12% of the Hammer Price of any amount.
*Value Added Tax (VAT) applies as follows: artworks are taxed at a reduced rate of five percent (5%) (‡ symbol) or nineteen percent (19%) († symbol) on the hammer price, depending on the item. For items marked with the Omega symbol (Ω), the hammer price is exempt from VAT. A nineteen percent (19%) VAT applies to the Buyer’s Premium for all items, regardless of the symbol.
