Art Restoration

Peter's Gallery's experts have treated works by the most celebrated artists from Cyprus, Greece to Europe and the Americas.

Restoration Treatments

Established in 1973, the fine art restoration service at Peter’s Gallery has a long history of preserving works of art. The painting conservation team treat works of art from all periods from Old Masters to Contemporary.

The original intent of the artist is first and foremost. We are committed to the preservation of art using principles of minimal invasion employing advanced materials and techniques. All materials utilised offer long-term stability and are compatible with the original artwork.

Frame Restoration

Frames are structurally stabilized, missing ornamentation is repaired or replaced, and finishes are matched and restored.

Experience

Peter's Art & Frames skilled framers routinely work with antique frames of all styles and periods, using methods that incorporate a unique blend of tradition and technology. Trained to work with time-tested materials and craftsmanship, as well as modern finishes, they can correct most surfaces or structural problems.

Treatments

Frame restoration treatments range from stabilizing the joinery to reducing or enlarging a frame to match a painting’s size. Our artisans also treat flaking gesso and gesso losses, and replace missing surface decoration with either hand-carved giltwood or newly cast composition ornaments identical to the originals.

When it comes to finishing, they take great care to ensure that the color and karat of the newly applied gold leaf is harmonious with the original gilding, before duplicating the antique patina. With each step, Peter’s Art & Frames strives to maintain the historical integrity of the frame, while observing the highest conservation standards.

Please note that lot’s prices listed on this page are exclusive of the Buyer’s Premium, of any applicable taxes and costs, unless otherwise noted.

Auction closing times

Lots will close at their scheduled time unless a bid is placed within five minute of a Lot’s scheduled closing time, in which case we will extend the sale of that Lot by five minutes.

The extension of any Lots closing time does not affect any other Lots closing time; therefore, it is possible that Lots will close out of the announced auction ending time. Lots may extend for up to two hours to accommodate competitive bidding.

The term “secondary market” refers to art that has been sold at least once before. In simpler terms, the secondary market deals with resale, typically with artworks by artists who have a substantial reputation. For example, most artworks sold through auction houses form part of the secondary market.
