Photos Protopapas, born in 1967 in Akanthou, is an artist who studied Fine Arts at Queens College, part of the City University of New York. He excelled in his studies and was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a remarkable GPA of 3.61, earning him recognition from the school’s Art Department for his outstanding performance in Studio Art. He has had two successful exhibitions, receiving excellent reviews from artists whose works are displayed in prestigious museums such as the Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of Modern Art.
Upon returning to Cyprus, Protopapas held 14 solo exhibitions at Peter’s Gallery, impressing the public with his originality and new ideas. He aims to open new paths for Modern Art in Cyprus and challenges the Cypriot public to question what art truly is.
Protopapas’ paintings can be found in private collections in Cyprus, Greece, England, Germany, Belgium, and America, as well as in the Cyprus State Gallery.
Critics have praised Protopapas’ works for their dynamic and powerful compositions. Gabriel Laderman describes the impact of Protopapas’ use of colors and composition as overwhelming, as if being continuously struck against a wall.
Harry Kramer believes that Protopapas is a skilled painter, evident in his unique and creative works. Protopapas’ technique looks towards the future and does not imitate others, allowing his works to be truly original. The successful use of colors and composition in his paintings contributes to their overall impact.
Protopapas himself explains his artistic philosophy, stating that a painting should be an independent entity, not influenced by physical objects or emotional associations. He focuses on the essential elements of line, space, and colour in their most basic compositions. By removing conventional forms, he aims to capture the true essence of life. Protopapas believes that abstract art is the most real, as it represents the idea and essence of things.
Antonis Zimboulakis praises Protopapas’ mastery in his work, highlighting the global variations of colour, volume, and composition. He notes that Protopapas’ art immediately captivates viewers, as proven by his previous works.
Christos Charalambous acknowledges Protopapas’ distinct style and considers his compositional work as a defining point in his career.

The total purchase price is calculated, in short, as such:
Hammer Price + Buyer’s Premium (12%) + *VAT (5% or 19%)
The Buyer’s Premium is added to the Hammer Price (winning bid) and is included as part of the total Purchase Price payable by the successful Bidder. In an Online Auction conducted by Peter’s Gallery, the Buyer’s Premium rate is as follows: 12% of the Hammer Price of any amount.
*Value Added Tax (VAT) applies as follows: artworks are taxed at a reduced rate of five percent (5%) (‡ symbol) or nineteen percent (19%) († symbol) on the hammer price, depending on the item. For items marked with the Omega symbol (Ω), the hammer price is exempt from VAT. A nineteen percent (19%) VAT applies to the Buyer’s Premium for all items, regardless of the symbol.

Effective May 2024, Peter’s Gallery has lowered its VAT rates from 19% to 5% for all categories excluding Silkscreen prints & Poster prints. Please refer to our announcement and our Terms and Conditions for more information.
Please note that Lot prices listed on this page are exclusive of the Buyer’s Premium, of any applicable taxes and costs, unless otherwise noted.
Lots will close at their scheduled time unless a bid is placed within five minutes of a Lot’s scheduled closing time, in which case we will extend the sale of that Lot by five minutes.
The extension of any Lot’s closing time does not affect any other Lot’s closing time; therefore, it is possible that Lots will close out of the announced auction ending time. Lots may extend for up to two hours to accommodate competitive bidding.
