Paris Prekas, one of the most significant Greek artists, was born in Athens in 1926 and passed away in 1999, leaving behind a multifaceted body of work that extended beyond painting and sculpture to include jewelry and architectural decoration. His abstract explorations were deeply influenced by the precision of ancient Greek sculpture and painting, emphasizing the purity of form and the harmony of shapes.
In 2012, a retrospective exhibition of Prekas’s works was held, featuring pieces from foundations and private collections in Greece and abroad. Curated by Meropi Preca, the exhibition was accompanied by a bilingual edition (Greek – English) with contributions from prominent researchers and a detailed chronology, bibliography, and unpublished photographic material.
Prekas’s artistic journey led him to explore sculpture, driven by a desire to translate the forms and tones of painting into material expression. His sudden departure left his life’s canvas unfinished, but his legacy was curated by his beloved companion, the painter Meropi Preca. His extensive body of work, showcased in numerous group and solo exhibitions, was celebrated in a retrospective at the Benaki Museum in the Piraeus building.
Born in Athens and originally from Santorini, Prekas was captivated by the idea of flight, often depicting the myth of Icarus in his art. His works, including paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and furniture, were showcased at the Teloglion, presenting the main stages of his artistic evolution. Notably, his pieces inspired by the drama of Cyprus and the events of 17 November 1973, as well as his depictions of the sea and the landscape of Santorini, were of particular interest.
Prekas’s late works included pieces inspired by the Heroes of Riace, reflecting his enduring fascination with ancient Greek art. Additionally, a diverse range of creations, including a large sundial, jewelry, and furniture made of metal, wood, and leather, showcased the breadth of his artistic expression.
Paris Prekas’s legacy continues to resonate through his timeless symbols of heroism, freedom, and the enduring power of visual language to capture and convey the human experience.

Hammer Price + Buyer’s Premium (12%) + *VAT (5% or 19%)
The Buyer’s Premium is added to the Hammer Price (winning bid) and is included as part of the total Purchase Price payable by the successful Bidder. In an Online Auction conducted by Peter’s Gallery, the Buyer’s Premium rate is as follows: 12% of the Hammer Price of any amount.
*Value Added Tax (VAT) applies as follows: artworks are taxed at a reduced rate of five percent (5%) (‡ symbol) or nineteen percent (19%) († symbol) on the hammer price, depending on the item. For items marked with the Omega symbol (Ω), the hammer price is exempt from VAT. A nineteen percent (19%) VAT applies to the Buyer’s Premium for all items, regardless of the symbol.
