Giorgos Kypris, a Cypriot sculptor born in 1954, currently resides and works between Athens and Santorini in Greece. He is known for his participation in numerous solo and group exhibitions, as well as his work in jewelry design and permanent exhibitions through his personal art gallery, MATI. Kypris has been featured in various publications, including books, articles, and magazines. Some of his notable works include the “Entrapped Fish” installation at the World Bank Building in Washington D.C., the “Gate of Knowledge” in Pafos, Cyprus, and the “Observers” installation in Santorini, Greece.
Kypris was born in Cyprus and later moved to Athens, Greece, where he studied at the Sarafianos School of Art and the Istituto Statale d’ Arte per la Ceramica in Faenza, Italy. In 1980, he established “Studio 71” in Athens, focusing on design objects and sculptures. Over time, he transitioned to experimenting with new art forms and materials, such as metals, foam, plastic, castings, and installations. His personal art gallery, MATI, is located in Santorini and showcases his sculptural and jewelry work, along with pieces from Greek jewelry designers.
Kypris’ artistic practice often delves into the human psyche, addressing themes such as void, loneliness, sadness, vanity, immigration, religion, and politics. His notable works include the ongoing “Fish” series, the “Parallel Notions” body of works, and the “Vanity” series, which touch upon societal obsessions and mass consumption.
In addition to his solo exhibitions, Kypris has participated in group exhibitions in various countries, including Greece, Cyprus, the USA, France, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Luxembourg, Hungary, Turkey, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. His commissioned works and environments can be found in public and private collections across Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
Kypris has received recognition for his work, including awards in art competitions in Greece and abroad. His pieces have been published in magazines, articles, and books, and he has been featured in solo exhibitions at various galleries and cultural centers. His work is represented in several museums and foundations, and he has received awards and honors for his contributions to the art world.

The total purchase price is calculated, in short, as such:
Hammer Price + Buyer’s Premium (12%) + *VAT (5% or 19%)
The Buyer’s Premium is added to the Hammer Price (winning bid) and is included as part of the total Purchase Price payable by the successful Bidder. In an Online Auction conducted by Peter’s Gallery, the Buyer’s Premium rate is as follows: 12% of the Hammer Price of any amount.
*Value Added Tax (VAT) applies as follows: artworks are taxed at a reduced rate of five percent (5%) (‡ symbol) or nineteen percent (19%) († symbol) on the hammer price, depending on the item. For items marked with the Omega symbol (Ω), the hammer price is exempt from VAT. A nineteen percent (19%) VAT applies to the Buyer’s Premium for all items, regardless of the symbol.

Effective May 2024, Peter’s Gallery has lowered its VAT rates from 19% to 5% for all categories excluding Silkscreen prints & Poster prints. Please refer to our announcement and our Terms and Conditions for more information.
Please note that Lot prices listed on this page are exclusive of the Buyer’s Premium, of any applicable taxes and costs, unless otherwise noted.
Lots will close at their scheduled time unless a bid is placed within five minutes of a Lot’s scheduled closing time, in which case we will extend the sale of that Lot by five minutes.
The extension of any Lot’s closing time does not affect any other Lot’s closing time; therefore, it is possible that Lots will close out of the announced auction ending time. Lots may extend for up to two hours to accommodate competitive bidding.
