Christos Bokoros is a Greek artist, born in Agrinio in 1956. He studied law at the Democritus University of Thrace before turning to fine arts at the School of Fine Arts in Athens in 1983. Having exhibited his work since the mid-80s, Bokoros has produced several notable solo shows across Greece and beyond, including “Apprenticeship in Reality”, “Impenetrable Forest”, “Bare Essentials”, and most recently, “The Feast”. These exhibitions reflect on themes such as reality, history, memory, and minimalism.

Throughout his career, Bokoros’ work has been showcased both in group and solo settings, totaling over eighty appearances. Some prominent venues include the Benaki Museum in Athens, the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow, the Cave of the Apocalypse on Patmos, the Municipal Theater in Piraeus, and various international biennales. Among these, notable mentions go to the Mediterranean Biennale in Nice (1993), the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain in Paris (1994 and 1995), and the International Festival of Painting in Cagnes-sur-Mer (1992 and 1994), where he received the Grand Prix in 1992.

Bokoros explores diverse topics through his artwork, responding to historical events like World War II and the subsequent civil war, or addressing universal ideas like nature, freedom, and existence itself. This versatile artist often alternates between extensive thematic cycles and standalone pieces, using different media such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, ink, charcoal, collage, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video, performance, and land art.

His artistic evolution can be traced through numerous stages characterized by specific techniques and subjects. After initial figuration, Bokoros transitioned to abstraction while maintaining occasional symbolic elements that hint at his earlier style. Throughout the ’90s, his focus shifted toward monochrome compositions marked by geometric shapes and lines, which later gave way to more organic forms inspired by landscapes and natural phenomena. Since then, he has embraced simplicity, employing restrained palettes and reduced motifs to convey profound messages about humanity, culture, and spirituality.

Aside from creating original pieces, Bokoros has contributed significantly to preserving and promoting Greek heritage. Examples include collaborative projects honoring renowned figures like Alexander Papadiamantis, Odysseus Elytis, and Pericles Pantazis, along with initiatives supporting humanitarian organizations and social causes. Furthermore, he has played active roles in educational programs, workshops, conferences, juries, advisory boards, consultancy services, and publishing endeavors related to art theory and practice.
