Aggelidis Pascalis biography

Born in Alexandroupoli, Greece, in February 1955, Pascalis Aggelidis is a renowned artist recognized for his unique approach to blending ancient and modern themes in his works. He studied art decoration, free drawing, and color composition in Thessaloniki, laying the groundwork for his future artistic endeavors. Under the mentorship of painter Dimitris Scretas, Aggelidis honed his skills in metal surface engraving techniques, further expanding his artistic repertoire.

Aggelidis has applied his talents to various creative fields, working as a set and costume designer for multiple public theaters. Additionally, his large-scale wall paintings can be found in public spaces and prestigious private establishments. Since 1989, he has made Makrinitsa, Pelion, and the city of Volos his home, drawing inspiration from the rich cultural and historical landscape of Greece.

Central to Aggelidis’ art is his exploration of human emotions and experiences, which he masterfully imbues into depictions of ancient statues, creating an unexpected yet striking juxtaposition of past and present. This technique fosters a sense of connection between viewers and the artwork, prompting reflection on the timeless nature of human feelings. Aggelidis’ work challenges the conventional perceptions of antiquity while encouraging audiences to question their own understanding of history and modernity.

Aggelidis’ artistic accomplishments have been celebrated through numerous solo exhibitions held at distinguished venues, including the Centre Expérimental d’Athènes (1984), Galerie Kreonidis (1987), Galeries Ersi (1992, 1994), Galerie “Rythmos” (Komotini, 1992), Galerie KOSTAS Karras (1991, 1992), Galerie Cellini (Leiden, Netherlands, 1994), Galerie ESTEC (Noordwijk, Netherlands, 1994), Wayne Centre d’Art Galerie (Philadelphia, USA, 1994), and Maria Andipa Icône Galerie (London, 1994). His contributions to the art world were further recognized in 2011 with the prestigious Athens Academy Award. Most recently, Aggelidis’ works were featured at the Hellenic Centre in London in 2021, solidifying his international reputation as a distinguished and thought-provoking contemporary artist.

Lot Prices

Please note that Lot prices listed on this page are exclusive of the Buyer’s Premium, of any applicable taxes and costs, unless otherwise noted.

Auction closing times

Lots will close at their scheduled time unless a bid is placed within five minutes of a Lot’s scheduled closing time, in which case we will extend the sale of that Lot by five minutes.

The extension of any Lot’s closing time does not affect any other Lot’s closing time; therefore, it is possible that Lots will close out of the announced auction ending time. Lots may extend for up to two hours to accommodate competitive bidding.

Unsold artworks from the latest auction are now available for purchase at their starting price for a limited time. The Aftersale offers a second chance for unclaimed items to find their new collector. They can be viewed on this page under the ‘Aftersale‘ label or by visiting the gallery.

For a direct view of the Aftersale items only, you can browse them here.

Certificate of Authenticity

A Certificate of Authenticity is essential to identify and attest to an artwork's genuineness and provenance. Peter's Gallery issues a Certificate of Authenticity to accompany every piece from our collection.

The secondary art market

The term “secondary market” refers to art that has been sold at least once before. In simpler terms, the secondary market deals with resale, typically with artworks by artists who have a substantial reputation. For example, most artworks sold through auction houses form part of the secondary market.
