Takis Parlavatzas (1930-2014) was a prominent Greek artist known for his diverse artistic talents. He began his artistic journey by enrolling at The School of Fine Arts in Athens in 1948, where he studied painting under the guidance of Yiannis Moralis, ultimately graduating in 1956.

Parlavatzas furthered his artistic education through international studies, including a scholarship from the Dutch government to study fresco, stained glass, and mosaic at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. He also pursued studies at the École des Beaux-Arts and the École des Métiers d’Art in France, broadening his artistic horizons through extensive travel and exposure to contemporary art across Europe.

Throughout his career, Parlavatzas held numerous solo exhibitions in Greece and participated in international group exhibitions, including the Alexandria Biennale and the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris. His artistic achievements were further recognized when he won the Academy of Athens Award for his book “The Aesthetic Categories in Contemporary Art.”

Parlavatzas also left a lasting impact through his public commissions, creating stained glass for the Athens City Hall, a mosaic for the church of Agios Panteleimonas Acharnon, and a large-scale work comprising colored bricks and ceramics for Floisvos Marina.

His artistic legacy extends to sculptural monuments and busts erected in public spaces across Greece, including Samothrace, Santorini, Lemnos, Glyfada, Kamena Vourla, Piraeus, Volos, and Thessaloniki.

The impact of Parlavatzas’ work is reflected in its presence in esteemed collections such as The National Gallery of Greece, The Municipal Gallery of Athens, and numerous other public and private collections, both in Greece and internationally. His enduring contributions to the Greek art scene and his significant influence on public spaces continue to be celebrated and appreciated.
